Questions & Answer
Q1:
Which companies are included in the screening process?
Our goal is to include all Belgian listed companies for which we find enough analyst coverage. As a rule of thumb, the list includes all Bel20 companies, complemented by a selection of some 30 mid/small caps for which we find at least three analysts per company.
Q2:
What aspects of Financial Information are examined in the Award?
Our goal is to examine all aspects of financial information and communication relevant to analysts and investors. In the past several years, the four major categories examined are 1/ Annual Report, 2/ Press releases, 3/ Investor Relations and 4/ Website. The weight of each category can vary (slightly) over time. In past few years, Investor Relation received double weight compared to the other three categories.
Q3:
Can a company win the award 2 years in a row?
No, once a company wins the Award, she can participate the next year, but will have to wait three consecutive years to win again the global award.
However, a company can gain again nominations for best website, best annual report, etc separately year after year.
Q4:
Where can we find the grids to fill in and how can we participate?
The whole process has been automated and makes use of an intranet site. Therefore you must contact the ABAF-BVFA office (+32 2 514 43 13 or info@abaf-bvfa.be). If you are a qualified equity analyst covering Belgian equities, you can be provided a login and password.
Q5:
Are the grids composed of quantitative questions only?
No, the grids contain both quantitative but also qualitative questions.
Q6:
Is it fair to compare small companies to blue chips?
In general, big(ger) companies have bigger budgets to spend on financial information and communication than small(er) companies, making it more difficult for smaller companies to win the overall Award. Nevertheless, history proves that small(er) companies can do very well in one or more of the categories examined. For this reason and since a number of years, BVFA-ABAF also nominates the best performer in each of the four categories.
